Commend an Officer or Employee

If a member of the Louisville Police Department helped you, treated you with professionalism, handled a situation well, or made a positive difference, we want to know about it.

Commendations are reviewed by department leadership and may be placed in the employee’s personnel file when appropriate.

File a Complaint

The Louisville Police Department takes complaints seriously.

A complaint may involve officer conduct, professionalism, use of authority, communication, enforcement action, policy concerns, or any other issue involving the department.

You do not have to know the exact policy or law involved. If something concerns you, explain what happened as clearly as you can.

Anonymous Complaints

You may submit a complaint without providing your name.

However, anonymous complaints can be harder to fully investigate if we cannot contact you for additional information. Providing contact information does not mean your complaint is automatically public, and it allows us to follow up if more details are needed.

What Happens After a Complaint Is Submitted

Complaints are reviewed by department leadership.

Depending on the nature of the complaint, the department may review reports, body camera video, in-car video, radio traffic, witness information, officer statements, policy, and other available records.

Some complaints can be resolved quickly. Others may require a more detailed review.

The department will handle complaints as fairly and thoroughly as the circumstances allow.
